There’s nothing like spending Christmas in one of the most famous places in America! Mount Rushmore and the surrounding area are happy to give this area a festive feel during the holidays, so join cities like Sioux Falls, Custer, and Rapid City for this holiday season!
In Sioux Falls, the downtown holidays have already kicked off this past weekend with the Parade of Lights, and now every Saturday until Christmas, you don’t want to miss out of free horse-drawn wagon rides from noon to 4 p.m. at 12th and Phillips. You can also take your children to Shriver Square to visit Santa for free on December 14 and 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Make sure you bring your camera, so you can take your own pictures of Santa at no charge! While you’re downtown, be sure to work on your holiday shopping at some of the most unique stores around!
On December 14 at 2:30 p.m., you can enjoy holiday music performed by a large group of tuba musicians at the Coliseum while in Sioux Falls. The first Tuba Christmas was conducted by the late Paul Lavalle in NYC’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink in 1974 with traditional Christmas music.
Afterwards, you can don your favorite Santa costume to participate in an evening of adult holiday fun! From 3 to 9 p.m., you can celebrate with the Second Annual Sioux Falls SantaCon, a free pub crawl with tons of Santas! Join the others dressed up at the many bars around the city, Wiley’s Tavern, Club David, Skelly’s, and Lucky’s, where there will be drink specials for Santas only. Make sure to meet at Wiley’s at 3 p.m. so you can join in on the Santa family picture!
