Meet a Penguin at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies!

Who could say no to an adorable, playful little penguin? Ripley’s Aquarium sure can’t, and that’s why they’ve come up with a couple different events that celebrate the loveable little critters. We’ve talked before about Ripley’s camps and sleepovers during the summer, which are still taking place (learn more about those here), but the aquarium is now featuring days where you can cool off from the summer heat and get inside the lives of the penguins.

The Penguin Experience is a 3-hour event in which you can learn more about the African Penguins (also known as Black-footed Penguins) from a seasoned aquarium staff expert. Not only do you get to learn more about the creatures, you also get to go inside the indoor/outdoor habitat and pet one. Get the chance to go face-to-face with the black and white, flightless birds and take home a souvenir photo of you with him.

For an event the kids will especially love – though, I know everyone would love to have the chance to meet a penguin – attend one of the Penguin Painting Experience days. On these days, you’ll have the opportunity to see the African Penguin artist in action. This talented creature will create, with your help, a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. The bird will paint up its signature footprints on canvas artwork. To top it all off, you get to take it home with you.

Either of these two events will be going on throughout the months of July and August, so head over to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and the Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies to get up close and personal with these precious, hilarious creatures. Also, make sure you spend plenty of time at the aquarium’s Penguin Playhouse exhibit, where you can crawl through the underwater tube and watch the penguins swim and play around you.

While you do, stay at any of the following hotels for the chance to receive all the comforts you need when traveling away from home, while still remaining within a half-mile of the aquarium: Best Western Twin Islands, Westgate Smoky Mountain Hotel, Days Inn Rocky Waters or the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites.
