Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies: Camps & Sleepovers

The summertime is all about the kids at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies. There are three different exciting and interactive experiences for you and your kids to take part in throughout this month. At Family Night Out, the whole family can enjoy exploring the aquarium’s many different exhibits before you settle in beneath the sharks or among the penguins. Or, Shark Central and Boneless Beauties are two camp experiences that will give your kids the chance to get up-close-and-personal with some of the most terrifying and graceful creatures beneath the sea. All of these exciting activities give you and your kids the perfect chance to enjoy an educational and exciting adventure.

Family Night Out Sleepover
Mark your calendar for June 14, 17, 21, 24 or 28 for one evening of eventful experiences. Family Night Out will give you and your kids the chance of a lifetime to learn more about all of the exciting creatures that live under the sea. Get admission into the aquarium, then spend the evening exploring the exhibits, participating in all of the insightful and entertaining activities, enjoy a late night snack, then go to bed beneath the sharks or the penguins. You set up camp either in the Shark Lagoon tunnel or the Penguin Playhouse, depending on which date you choose. The 21st and the 24th will give you the chance to sleep with the sharks, while the 14th, 17th and 28th will allow you to spend the night with the playful penguins. Then, wake up in the morning and enjoy a delicious breakfast. If you are looking for the perfect way to spend some time together, then a night filled with science experiments, activities and unique and incredible animals may be just what you need.

Shark Central Camp
On June 19th, Shark Central Camp will give your kids, ages 5-13, the chance to sleep with the sharks. Around the world, more than 375 different types of sharks have been discovered. Your kids can learn all about these different species, including some that they may have never heard of before. Crafts and activities will keep them busy all night, as well as the chance to explore the aquarium. Campers also have the chance to participate in a mock dissection, get a close up of the stingrays and go behind the scenes to watch the incredible process of feeding the sandtiger sharks. Make sure your kids pack their bathing suit and towel, because these activities will give them the rare opportunity to get up-close-and-personal with some of the amazing creatures of the sea.

Boneless Beauties Camp
Give your kids the chance to spend all day in the aquarium, learning about the different characteristics, adaptations and habitats of the animals that have no bones. Your kids can experience what it’s like to live without a bone: how do these animals move, and how do they protect themselves? All of these questions and more will be answered, as your kids participate in a variety of interactive activities. Splash With the Stingrays will allow your kids to get in the water with the rays, so make sure you pack your child’s bathing suit and a towel. A Creature Feature will also be presented, where your kids will have the opportunity to touch a jellyfish, and a squid dissection is another one of the many interactive and exciting activities. Don’t let your kids miss out on this incredible adventure, happening on June 15!

When you’re in the Gatlinburg area, make sure you stay close to the aquarium in a hotel that will provide you with not only the convenience of being close to the excitement, but also one that will provide you with all of the comforts you deserve on your vacation. The Sleep Inn & Suites Gatlinburg, Best Western Twin Islands, Sidney James Mountain Lodge and Westgate Smoky Mountain Hotel are all less than a half-mile away.

Spend some time with your family, and let your kids learn all about the wonders beneath the sea with any of these three exciting and hands-on special events. If you miss any of the June dates, don’t worry because there will be other opportunities throughout the summer for you and your family to enjoy all the incredible activities. 1. All of those sound great. I would have loved the Boneless Beauties Camp as a kid. I’d probably still love it as an adult.

  2. I wanna have a sleep over with some sharks or penguins! I hear that’s a great aquarium. There’s another sweet aquarium in San Antonio!

  3. Forget kids, I wanna touch a jellyfish! I also adore penguins and would love to fall asleep near their wobbly little forms. If only I were younger…

  4. My kids are so excited about swimming with the stingrays. They still arent so sure about sleeping with the sharks, but i assured them they wont get eaten..HAHA! Can’t wait!
