New Family-Fun Attractions from Vacations Made Easy

Make this year one filled with excitement and entertainment at one of these popular attractions Vacations Made Easy now offers. Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Kansas City is home to over twenty thrilling water slides, rivers, beaches, and play areas. Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster is built for entertainment with rides designed with kids in mind, and special play areas to cool down from the summer heat. And the Mega Cavern Mega Zips in Louisville is the only 100% underground zipline adventure tour. With these exciting additions to VME’s long list of attractions, there’s no shortage of ideas to fill your next vacation – or vacations – with family fun.

The Schlitterbahn water parks originated in New Braunfels, Texas in 1979. The family-owned and operated company has since opened in three other cities. Following the New Braunfels location were the South Padre Island and Galveston Island parks, and finally the Kansas City, Kansas location, which opened in 2009. Since 1998, Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort has been the reigning winner of the Golden Ticket Award for “Best Waterpark.” The Kansas City location covers three hundred and seventy acres and has a “Transportainment” river system that takes guests from one side of the park to the other, in a “hop-on, hop-off” system. Guests can enter and exit the river from any of the slides, chutes, or beaches, so that they can experience the park without ever leaving the water.

Schlitterbahn Kansas City hosts more than twenty water activities, ranging from high thrill and deep water rides for the adrenaline junkies to low speed and shallow water rides for the little tykes. Bahnzai Pipeline is one of the many thrill slides, with a forty-two-foot-tall tower, connected to the Black Knight and Wolfpack tube slides. The Black Knight shoots you down a twisting slide, fully-enclosed, while the Wolfpack is an oversized slide that gives you a completely different experience every time you ride. Trade in your tube for a mat, take a deep breath, and get ready to fly down Twister, the fastest ride in the park. Or, try out the new Cyclone, coming this year, and hold on to your mat as you are whipped through twists and turns and shot through tunnels, before ending in a splash in the pool. Many of the fast-paced, high-action water slides are not appropriate for the younger children, but Schlitterbahn definitely has not forgotten about them. With the Kinderhaven playground, families with small children can have the same, high-level of fun. Nine slides, a kids play area, and a wading pool make up this interactive, watery playground. Parents can play with their children, or sit back and watch them have fun on their own while they relax in a shaded seating or open sun-lounging area.

Among all the fun and excitement, the relaxing getaway at Henry’s Hideout provides a little peace whenever you need a break. A heated pool contains a swim-up refreshment bar with in-water seating for the perfect destination to unwind and take a break from the action. Or, hop on the 600-foot long lazy river for a relaxing float across the park. Catch some rays as you lay out at Kristal Beach or Torrent Cove, then jump into the action again as you grab a tube and ride down the Raging River. With all of this, plus more, there’s no doubt that Schlitterbahn has something for everyone in the family.

New fun with Vacations Made Easy doesn’t stop at Kansas City. Lancaster, Pennsylvania’s Dutch Wonderland park is a great destination for a fun-filled family vacation, especially for the kids. Surprise the kids with a visit to the park and watch their faces light up when they enter the park as “princes” and “princesses.” The park is an exciting representation of a kingdom, with roaming characters such as Princess Brooke, the Knight of Safety and Duke the Dragon. Your kids are welcomed as princes and princesses themselves, putting them in the middle of the park’s kingdom atmosphere.

Happiness ensues as your little royal members board the Astroliner, a kid-sized rocket ride, or as they race beside you down the Fun Slide. Start spinning on Turtle Whirl, a tilt-a-whirl ride designed for the whole family, or pick up a little more speed on The Twister, as you spin horizontally and bounce in a wave-like manner. Team up with a family member and fight against the rest on the bumper cars, where you can try and own the road. Younger kids will love Sky Fighter, where they become junior astronauts and take to the skies in their own airplane, and Huck Finn’s Leapin’ Frogs, where the game of leap-frog is taken to a new and exciting level.

For the warmer months, bring your bathing suits and hit up Duke’s Lagoon, a sanctuary for water-filled fun. With a multi-level waterplay platform, slides built for the kids, spray nozzles, jets, tipping cones, and, of course, a large tipping bucket, the lagoon is designed for wet and wild fun. A lounge area, complete with palm trees and shaded spots underneath thatched umbrellas, makes the lagoon an oasis when you need a break from the action. Dutch Wonderland also plays host to some of the best in shows and entertainment. The Adventures of the Frog Prince show puts a new spin on fairytale romance, and the Dragons Tale show combines adventure and comedy when the princess and her pet dragon are forced to defend the kingdom against the evil Wizard and his knights. Go on a journey throughout the world in Beyond the Castle Walls, where Dutch Wonderland’s superstars bring the story to life. The kids will love hearing tales from Princess Brooke, as she shares her favorite exciting stories in an interactive story-time. With these shows, play areas, rides, and more, Lancaster’s Dutch Wonderland provides the perfect opportunity for an exciting way to spend time with the family.

When you make a trip to Louisville, Kentucky, it won’t be complete if you skip out on the chance to explore the city’s very own Mega Cavern, a man-made cave filled with exciting adventures. Mega Zips, the world’s only zipline that takes place completely underground, is perfect for families traveling with older children. Five zip lines and three challenge bridges make up this exciting underground expedition, testing your courage and your balance. Feel your adrenaline start to build up as you walk across the suspension bridges, holding onto the rope edge as you take a look below at the rock cavern drop-offs. Your heart will race as your guide helps you strap into the zip line, and you’ll hold your breath as you let loose and soar to the next observation tower. Below, above, and around you, the cavern walls stand tall and powerful in beautiful representations of nature.

The cavern may look intimidating, and it’s always a risk when participating in underground and zipline activities, but Mega Zip’s course is built to the Association for Challenge Course Technology guidelines, making it a safe adventure for participants. The tour guides are all professionally trained and are knowledgeable on all of the cave’s locations, so, under their guidance, you are guaranteed an insightful and safe travel. The cavern provides safety equipment for you as well, complete with a full body harness, trolley system, two heavy-duty lanyards with safety clips, and a helmet with a built-in miner’s light. The equipment looks similar to those of rock climbers, but is designed specifically for a zipline course. Before the tour, a training session is also required of all participants to better understand the challenges the zipline and the cavern produce. Although the cavern walls may seem a little daunting, there is no need to fear danger, so you can relax and enjoy an exciting adventure.

The Vacations Made Easy staff is happy to offer these three new attractions to customers. All are guaranteed to provide guests with exciting memories they will keep with them forever. These incredible vacation opportunities are perfect for those looking for a week, weekend, or even just a day-long trip with the family. Schlitterbahn, Dutch Wonderland, and Mega Cavern are all incomparable destinations where you can create lasting family memories.

  1. The Schlitterbahn Waterpark looks like a whole lot of fun. My family always went to waterparks during the Summer when my siblings and I were kids. This looks like it’d be a lot of fun to visit with my siblings this Summer.

  2. Wow! I didnt even know there was a Schliterbahn was in Kansas City. Thats very exciting! I’ve never been too one but I hear their awesome water parks. I know where I’m going this summer!

  3. The Mega Cavern sounds amazing! I haven’t done a zipline yet, but I love both heights and caves, so I think I need to try this one along with a canopy tour. I wonder if the cave was made specifically for a zipline or not. I’m glad it’s safe, it would kind of suck to be abandoned way beneath the surface of the earth.
