This is the final week of preparation for the greatest motorcycle rally in America and possibly the world, Sturgis 2011. The streets of the city of Sturgis in the Greater Mt. Rushmore Area will be lined with bikers and motorcycle clubs from around the country. Races, bike shows, concerts, and more will fill the schedule for the week of August 8th– 14th. If you’re headed up this weekend to get started in on the fun, don’t forget to ride your Harley to some of these great Mt.Rushmore landmarks.
If you ride a hog and have never made an appearance at the annual Sturgis Rally, then don’t even think about missing it this year. The band line-up this year presents rock n’ roll at its finest with George Thorogood, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Def Leppard, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and so many more! In addition to incredible music, the Buffalo Chip Pageant will feature gorgeous contestants, mud races and hill-climbing competitions will commence, and the Legends Ride will be escorted from Deadwood to Buffalo Chip. Get on your motorcycle, ride out to Sturgis, and get ready for the best rally yet!
When you head in town this weekend to get settled in before Sturgis kicks off, make a day trip to the Mount Rushmore Grand Legends Tour. During this exploration, you’ll get to see famous landmarks like the Mt. Rushmore National Memorial and the Crazy Horse Memorial at Custer Park. Participants will also have a chance to ride on a train from 1880 that transports passengers across the rugged terrain and beautiful landscapes of South Dakota.
This attraction gives visitors a chance to tour a real gold mine that was once the life of the area and held hopes for thousands of pan-handlers. The guided tour will inform guests about what it was like for the miners of the past, and the history of the location itself. Toward the end of the tour, you will even be given the opportunity to pan for gold yourself at this fun and education activity.
Have a Blast at Sturgis!
